Four-year-old Yvette suffered from a rare form of inoperable brain cancer known as DIPG, which is characterized by highly aggressive and difficult to treat tumors found in the brainstem, and it affects children almost exclusively. Yvette’s dream began with sharing a wish to ride a big yellow school bus with her hospice social worker. After further conversations with her family and hospice staff, we quickly realized she had an even bigger dream: Yvette wanted to attend school just like everyone else.

With the assistance of some amazing staff at FWISD, Project 4031 connected the family with the appropriate people to enroll Yvette in a Pre-K program and ensure her needs were accommodated. Unfortunately, Yvette’s family was unable to afford her uniforms and school supplies due to financial hardships caused by her illness. Project 4031 assisted by taking her “back to school” shopping for new clothes and supplies. She smiled from ear-to-ear as she picked out all pink supplies and her favorite character backpack and lunchbox. Her favorite part of the day was trying on clothes and modeling her new outfits followed by a snow cone trip. Yvette was ready and beaming the first day of school with her new clothes and backpack. This may not seem like a big dream to most, but to this little girl, it meant the world.

Yvette enjoyed her first school experience learning and making new friends before she passed away just two short months later. Project 4031 made her dream come true thanks to generous donors like you.
